Flag Day: Dubai Ruler urges nationwide flag-raising on 3 November
By Dubai Currents Staff1 min read
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, has called on the public to take part in Flag Day celebrations on 3 November 2026.
Annual tradition honours late President
The occasion, observed each year on 3 November, commemorates the accession of the late Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE’s second president. Sheikh Mohammed declared the day an annual event on 11 December 2012, and it was first marked in 2013. Flag Day serves as a symbol of loyalty, belonging and gratitude for the values of the union.
Call to action for all residents
In a message issued on Tuesday, the Dubai Ruler urged citizens, residents, institutions, ministries, schools, universities and homes to raise the UAE flag “high, proud, noble, and fluttering in the sky of our country.”
Flag Day launches National Month
For the past two years, Flag Day has also marked the start of National Month, a period of celebrations that continues until Eid Al Etihad, the UAE’s National Day, on 2 December. Across the country, major landmarks, beaches and public areas are typically adorned with thousands of flags, creating spectacular displays to mark the spirit of the day.
