Investment Deal Announced
The announcement was published on Thursday 15 October 2026 at 5:01 PM. Gargash Prime said it will develop a 2.5-million-square-foot logistics centre in Dubai Industrial City together with Jingdong Property, the Chinese investment arm of JD.com. The two firms signed the agreement on the margins of the Dubai Business Forum, an event hosted by Dubai Chambers that took place in Shenzhen and attracted the largest overseas business delegation the forum has ever seen.
Project Scope and Timeline
The planned hub will cover 2.5 million square feet and is intended to serve as a regional distribution and fulfilment centre for domestic and wider‑area supply chains. Gargash Prime’s managing director and group CEO, Shehab Gargash, noted that the holding company will contribute over Dh500 million to the build, although the final cost has yet to be locked in. He added that the work will proceed in two phases, with a possible third phase later, and that construction is set to start in 2027, with the first stage expected to take about 18 months to finish.
Comments from Executives
After the signing, Gargash told reporters: “This project is considered a completion of the infrastructure in the UAE and not an alternative to the existing infrastructures.” JD Property’s chief executive, Carl Chen, said: “We would like to leverage this facility to help other customers who have interest in investing and expanding in the Middle East, especially those that plug into either of our two systems. They may be independent, but they connect with the ecosystem that we have.”
China‑Dubai Trade Context
China ranks as Dubai’s top global trading partner, and Dubai Chambers maintains its biggest overseas office network in China, with locations in Shanghai, Shenzhen, Beijing and Hong Kong. Non‑oil trade between the emirate and China rose 118.4 percent, climbing from Dh166.4 billion in 2016 to Dh363.5 billion in 2025. Between 2024 and 2025 the increase was nearly 23 percent, a figure cited by Sultan Al Mansoori, CEO of Dubai Chambers, during his opening remarks at the forum. Chinese foreign direct investment into Dubai almost tripled over the same period, growing from Dh1.2 billion to more than Dh3.4 billion. Over a nine‑year span Dubai welcomed 300 Chinese FDI projects, which together contributed about 6.7 billion in capital.
