Dubai awards Dh3bn contracts for 100km of stormwater drainage lines under Tasreef Phase 3

Dubai Municipality has awarded contracts for four projects under the third phase of the Tasreef Programme, adding about 100 kilometres of main stormwater drainage lines across the city. The work, valued at Dh3 billion, is designed to expand the network’s capacity and serve nearly 100 square kilometres of urban areas.

Coverage and key areas

The new drainage lines, with diameters up to three metres, will be laid in districts including Jumeirah, Umm Suqeim, Al Safa, Al Manara, Al Quoz, Al Barsha, Al Wasl, Za’abeel, Al Bada’a, Al Satwa and Al Marmoom. These areas will be connected to the municipality’s main stormwater drainage network, increasing flow capacity, improving operational resilience and supporting sustainable urban growth.

Major infrastructure programme

The Tasreef Programme is among the largest strategic infrastructure projects in the UAE. Implemented by Dubai Municipality with a total investment of Dh30 billion, it aims to increase stormwater drainage capacity by 700 percent and reduce costs for pumping stations, operations and maintenance by 20 percent.

Jumeirah and Umm Suqeim project

One of the largest sub-projects under phase three is the Jumeirah and Umm Suqeim Stormwater Drainage Network Development Project. It covers communities from Umm Suqeim 1, 2, and 3, and Umm Al Sheif, up to Jumeirah 3, Al Safa 1 and 2, and Al Manara along the Dubai Water Canal. This project involves constructing about 42 kilometres of main drainage lines to boost system efficiency and capacity.

Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Khail Road project

Another project, between Sheik Zayed Road and Al Khail Road, includes 14 kilometres of main drainage lines. It will serve the Al Khail Road interchange towards Umm Suqeim, Umm Suqeim Road, and Sheik Zayed Road, as well as First Al Khail Street, Al Marabea Street, Al Waha Street, Al Zumurrud Street and connecting secondary roads. The project covers Al Quoz Industrial Areas 1, 3, and 4, and Al Barsha 1.

Al Wasl Road and areas east of Dubai Water Canal

The drainage lines along Al Wasl Road project will serve areas east of the Dubai Water Canal, including Za’abeel 2, Al Wasl, Jumeirah 1 and 2, Al Bada’a, Al Satwa, and Dubai World Trade Centre 1 and 2. Covering about 25 square kilometres, the project includes an integrated network of main and secondary lines totalling 21 kilometres, enabling flexible water flow management and preventing water accumulation.

Integrated drainage in Al Marmoom

In Al Marmoom, Dubai Municipality will develop an integrated and sustainable stormwater drainage network as part of phase three. This includes 23 kilometres of drainage infrastructure to serve vital areas.
