Dubai Police Issue 48,950 Fines for Expired Vehicle Registration in 2026

Dubai: Dubai Police have recorded 48,950 traffic citations for vehicles operating without valid registration during the first 10 months of 2026. January saw the highest number of violations, with 6,977 cases.
Penalties for Expired Registration
Motorists caught driving with an expired registration face a fine of 500 dirhams, four traffic points, and a seven-day vehicle impoundment, said Brigadier Juma Salem bin Suwaidan, Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police. The penalties are stipulated under traffic regulations, and police have urged vehicle owners to renew their registration before the expiry date.
Safety Risks and Technical Inspections
Brigadier bin Suwaidan cautioned that driving with an expired registration presents safety hazards, particularly when vehicles have not undergone periodic inspections. Regular technical inspections can detect defects in critical components such as tyres, brakes, lighting, and steering systems. Ignoring mechanical issues may result in sudden breakdowns and traffic collisions, he stated. Motorists also risk further financial and legal repercussions if their vehicle insurance has lapsed and they are involved in a crash.
Monthly Breakdown and Advice
According to Dubai Police figures, February recorded 6,768 violations, March 6,573, and July 6,404. The remaining monthly tallies were: June 4,965; August 4,859; September 4,763; October 4,056; April 2,601; and May 984.
Dubai Police urged drivers to monitor their vehicle registration and insurance expiry dates and to schedule technical inspections promptly. Motorists can use smart services provided by Dubai Police and other relevant authorities to check and settle outstanding traffic fines and to complete vehicle registration renewal procedures. Brigadier bin Suwaidan also advised vehicle owners to pay outstanding fines without delay rather than allowing them to accumulate. Police emphasised that maintaining vehicles with valid registration, insurance, and roadworthiness is crucial for minimising mechanical failures and safeguarding motorists and other road users.
