Emaar founder Mohamed Alabbar shared a video of Dubai Mall Plaza and Hotel on his verified social media accounts, accompanying it with the cryptic note “Coming Soon”. The post appeared just hours after he spoke at the Rise conference in Dubai.
Conference Remarks on Future Skyscraper
At the Rise conference, Alabbar told a packed hall that Emaar will soon unveil a skyscraper described as “one of the most beautiful buildings in the world”. He said, “We have a unique building that’s fully designed and ready,” and added, “We just want to make sure that the logistics operation and our ports are eased a little so that we can tender the job. It’s probably going to be one of the most beautiful buildings in the world.”
When asked when Dubai would see another skyscraper as beautiful and majestic as the Burj Khalifa, he replied, “I am just waiting for the Hormuz entrance to open and the situation to improve.”
The audience at the Dubai World Trade Centre was full, with one attendee mentioning she had travelled from India specifically to hear him speak.
Views on Automated Construction
An audience member questioned whether the next eight to ten years would see construction sites with zero human intervention. Alabbar acknowledged it was a possibility but expressed scepticism.
He noted that Chinese technology is closest to achieving this, citing a 15‑storey building in Abu Dhabi that was erected in twelve days. He stated, “It’s much better than a normal building,” and continued, “Energy efficiency is 100 percent better than a normal building. It is four times better earthquake resistant than a normal building. We are going somewhere with this.”
However, he added, “At the end of the day, we still have humans that have to erect the building,” and said, “My mind cannot think of a building that’s completely built by AI. But then again, what do I know.”
