Al Satwa Roundabout Converted to Signalised Junction, Cutting Journey Times by Half

Conversion of Al Satwa Roundabout to Signalised Intersection

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has finished turning Al Satwa Roundabout into a signal‑controlled junction, announcing that the change has halved journey times for vehicles passing through.

The RTA announced the completion on Wed 14 Oct 2026, 2:04 PM.

Effects on Traffic Flow and Public Transport

According to the RTA, waiting times and queues have fallen by as much as 60 % during peak periods. The work included road and surface upgrades carried out together with the signal installation. The intersection now manages traffic moving from 2nd December Street toward the Trade Centre and Al Satwa, as well as the reverse direction, and it links to internal streets of Al Satwa.

The new layout improves movement along those routes and makes it easier for buses to enter and leave the neighbourhood, which the authority expects will cut delays and help public‑transport services run more smoothly.

Wider Road‑Improvement Programme

The project also enhances access to Sheikh Zayed Road and surrounding districts such as the Trade Centre, Al Bada’a, Al Jafiliya, Al Hudaiba and Jumeirah. It forms part of a broader upgrade scheme for the area and complements the World Trade Centre Roundabout Development Project, which aims to strengthen connections between Dubai World Trade Centre, Sheikh Zayed Road and adjoining roads.

Together, the two schemes are intended to streamline traffic between the main corridors and nearby side streets and to reduce congestion at the points where they meet.
