Arrest on Delta Flight
American actress Selma Blair was arrested after flight attendants reported a “physically abusive passenger” on a Delta Air Lines flight from Los Angeles to New York, according to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey police department.
Police Statement and Injuries
Police identified Blair, known for her roles in “Legally Blonde”, “Cruel Intentions” and “Hellboy”, as the suspect in the incident that occurred on Sunday evening. She was taken into custody at John F. Kennedy Airport in New York and transported to a hospital for evaluation. Two flight attendants reported injuries, with one of them also taken to hospital.
Airline and Legal Proceedings
Delta Air Lines said it has zero tolerance for unruly or unlawful behaviour, stressing that customer and crew safety comes first. A video clip posted online showed Blair’s arraignment hearing on assault charges in the Queens borough of New York City on Monday, during which she was accused of kicking a police officer involved in her arrest and a nurse at the hospital where she was taken afterward. Blair was later released on bond.
Medical Condition and Representative’s Statement
A representative for the 54-year-old actress said she had suffered a medical emergency during the flight. The representative added, “Selma experienced a medical emergency that led to the alleged conduct. Upon landing, she received immediate medical attention and is currently in stable condition.” Blair has spoken publicly about her battle with multiple sclerosis, noting she was diagnosed with the autoimmune disorder in 2018.
