Dubai Ride 2026: Metro to open early, designated parking lots announced for cyclists
By Dubai Currents Staff3 min read
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced adjusted public transport and parking arrangements to facilitate attendance at Dubai Ride 2026, which is scheduled for Sunday, 1 November. The annual cycling event will see Sheikh Zayed Road temporarily closed to traffic and turned into a dedicated cycling lane.
Metro timings and fares
Dubai Metro services will begin operating at 3am on the morning of the event, earlier than the usual Sunday schedule. The extended hours are intended to help cyclists and spectators reach the start area before the route opens at 6.15am. The RTA advises passengers to verify their nol Card balance before travelling, as the round-trip fare for the day is fixed at Dh30. Participants using public transport are reminded to ensure sufficient funds for both journeys.
Designated parking locations
The RTA has specified three parking facilities for participants: Dubai World Trade Centre, Dubai Mall and Zabeel. Drivers are advised to allow extra time to walk from these lots to their registered start gates, as parking immediately next to individual gates may be limited. ParkinUAE has also urged riders to plan ahead and check availability in advance.
Additional parking has been suggested by Parkonic for three major Dubai Fitness Challenge events taking place in November. For Dubai Ride on 1 November, the recommended lots are at Dubai Opera, Souk Al Bahar and Emaar Boulevard Downtown. For Dubai Run on 22 November, parking is available at DIFC Square, DIFC GA/GV/GD and DIFC Innovation One. For Dubai Yoga on 29 November, lots are at One Zabeel, Lulu Hypermarket Al Warqa’a and Union Coop Al Warqa’a. Parkonic advises visitors to review terms and conditions for each lot on its website before arriving.
Route details and registration
Dubai Ride 2026 is part of the opening weekend of the Dubai Fitness Challenge, which runs from 31 October to 29 November. Participants can choose between two routes. The 12km Sheikh Zayed Road route, designed for more experienced cyclists, passes landmarks including the Museum of the Future, Dubai Water Canal and Burj Khalifa. It has five starting gates: Museum of the Future, Al Satwa, Coca-Cola Arena, Business Bay and Lower Financial Street. Riders must finish at the gate linked to their starting point.
The 4km Downtown family route is open to all ages and abilities, taking riders past Dubai Mall, Dubai Opera and Burj Khalifa. Participants should arrive between 4am and 6am to allow time for parking, registration checks and reaching the start gate. Both routes open at 6.15am, with the latest start time at 7.30am. The routes close at 8am. The event is not a race and does not involve timing; a maximum speed of 25km/h is enforced.
Entry is free but compulsory registration is required in advance for security reasons. Registration is handled through the Dubai Fitness Challenge website. Each adult must register individually; a parent or guardian can register up to three children and must accept the waiver on their behalf. Once registered, start gates cannot be changed without cancelling and re-registering. Participants should save their QR code, which is needed to collect a bib.
Organisers stress that bicycles are not permitted on the Dubai Metro. Cyclists who plan to ride to the event before sunrise must ensure their bicycles have working headlights. Medical support and bicycle repair assistance will be available along the routes, and toilets will be provided at start and finish gates.
Traffic and safety advice
Sheikh Zayed Road and surrounding roads will be affected by closures during the event. Motorists are advised to check the RTA’s official social media channels for the latest traffic updates and alternative routes. Participants must follow instructions from event marshals and allow additional travel time. The key recommendation is to plan the journey in advance, confirm the registered starting gate, arrive early, and ensure sufficient time to reach the start before the route opens at 6.15am.
