Overnight Emirates Road closures to begin Friday for Etihad Rail work

Etihad Rail has notified motorists that the Dubai-to-Sharjah section of Emirates Road (E611) will be closed overnight for more than two weeks starting Friday, 30 October.

Closure schedule

The daily restriction will apply from 1am to 5am and continue until Sunday, 15 November 2026. Only the early-morning hours are affected, but drivers who regularly travel between the two emirates at night or before dawn are advised to plan alternative routes or use different roads.

Impact on commuters

The closure is expected to disrupt shift workers, delivery drivers and travellers heading to airports. Etihad Rail apologised for any inconvenience and thanked the public for their understanding.

Rail network expansion

The work is part of ongoing infrastructure for the UAE’s national passenger rail network. Etihad Rail recently reported 120,000 ticket sales in the first 30 days since the official launch of passenger services, which connect Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Al Dhaid and Fujairah. The introductory phase saw stations open in Abu Dhabi and Fujairah, followed by Dubai Al Yalayis Station and Al Dhaid Station in Sharjah. Over the next few months, stations in Liwa, Madinat Zayed and across the Al Dhafra Region are expected to open.

Previous roadworks

Earlier, the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure announced a partial closure on Emirates Road towards Sharjah at Al Badea Bridge for construction of a temporary bridge for the rail project. In Sharjah, several major streets connecting Mleiha Road and Sharjah Ring Road, near University Bridge, were closed for two months as part of the same project.

Authorities have repeatedly urged motorists to cooperate to keep traffic flowing smoothly. Drivers are advised to check for updates from Etihad Rail and relevant road authorities before setting out, as closure details can change.
